Prajñā Research Foundation is a non-for-profit research organization that mainly focuses on promoting and improving public health through various means, such as research, teaching, health promotion and training programs. Despite this, the organisation is keen to implement community-based health intervention projects to improve the health of people under deprivation. Major area of intervention of Prajñā Research Foundation is health policy research, epidemiology, health communication research, health systems management, health equity and healthy ageing.
Prajna, meaning greater consciousness or knowledge, was initially a think-tank group to impart knowledge to support society, and it was formed by a group of social scientists. The basic doctrine behind this platform is egalitarianism. Hence, prajna research foundation urges that everyone in the society have the right to live a healthy life. The Prajñā Research Foundation is not only developed as an organisation for community health but also an academic platform for an interdisciplinary and inter-sector collaboration for setting up a resilient society.
The Prajna Research Foundation has a legacy of implementing various community-based projects to support people living with dementia. Prajna was instrumental in conceptualizing and implementing projects like Udbodh and Bodhi in association with Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and district administration Ernakulam to support people living with dementia. The Udbodh project aimed to create Dementia Friendly Communities (DFC) and Cochin Corporation became the first Dementia Friendly City in India. Prajna has attained several accolades in dementia care and support programs such as the first memory cafés in Kerala, free memory clinics at Kochi, the biggest memory walks in ASIA, etc.
